Davidson Plyforms – Grand Rapids, MI


Davidson Plyforms is a leading manufacturer of curved plywood, solid wood, and compression-molded recycled thermoplastic material products. Services provided by Davidson Plyforms include: compression molding, CNC machining, assembly, tooling, engineering, and full product design services for all of their markets.

Davidson Plyforms is on track to achieve official Eco Initiative registration in January, 2017. The facility has had a very successful implementation year in 2016 and set the following sustainability goals:

  • Reduce landfill waste by 10%
    • Minimize waste to landfill
      • Finish Line hazardous waste
      • Minimize glue waste
      • Recycle T-Nuts
      • Implement plant-wide recycling
      • Reuse PET plastic banding
      • Discontinued Styrofoam coffee cups
      • Hand dryers installed in restroom
      • Evaluate glove usage
  • Improve Veneer/plastic usage by 10%
    • Maximize usage of raw materials
      • Correct veneer sizing
      • Glue-use reductions (completed Spring 2016)
  • Decrease gas and electric usage by 10%
    • Become more energy efficient
      • Install sensors in restrooms and low-use areas (ongoing)
      • Air compressor room heat reclaim project (Feb. 2016)
      • Air compressor leak audit (Spring 2016)
      • Turn temperature down on Wemhoner Press electric heaters
        • Currently down 20% as of Oct. 2016

In September, 2016, volunteers from Davidson Plyforms attended the 13th Annual Mayor’s Grand River Cleanup. The Grand River was cleaned of trash and debris that had collected over the past year. The Davidson Plyforms group was assigned to the Indian Mill Creek area. The group collected 7 tires and 10 bags of trash and recyclables from the creek.
