L&P Distribution Center – Conover, NC

Leggett & Platt’s Distribution Center, located in Conover, North Carolina, became registered in the EFEC program in 2010. Through recycling and waste reduction, the facility has gone from a 30-yard dumpster being picked up weekly for disposal to an 8-yard dumpster that is picked up bi-weekly.

2017 goals set by the EFEC team include:

  1. Reduce idle time by 20% for L&P drivers
    • No idle policy in place
      • Monitor through QualComm
    • Idle time is currently at 35% and needs to get below 15%
    • Will also improve air quality in North Carolina
    • LED usage per day: $1.17
  2. Reduce energy consumption by 5%
    • Replace HVAC system in shipping with a more efficient unit
  3. Improve ergonomics in bed assembly department and reduce movements by 5%
    • Improve process efficiencies
    • Less energy will be used and more work will be completed

In April 2016, the facility participated in an Arbor Day event. All participants wore their EFEC shirts and assisted with parking cars and setting up booths, games, and tents. Additionally, the facility takes part of their money that was collected from recycling throughout the year and adopts a child in need for Christmas. The facility also participated in cleaning up Deborah Herman Road in September 2016.
