Since 2009, Solon Specialty Wire has made environmental sustainability a priority in the way they operate. Projects the branch has completed include:

  • Beneficial re-use of spent sulfuric acid is sent to wastewater treatment plants for treatment instead of disposal as a hazardous waste
  • Energy reduction
    • Older, less-efficient fluorescent lighting was upgraded to newer, more-efficient fluorescent lighting to save energy
    • Additionally, motion sensors were installed in warehouses and areas of less traffic to reduce lighting waste

Partnering with the local MRDD Board and the SAW program, Solon has been able to make a win-win partnership providing jobs for a community that needs the work, as well as sharing the desire to recycle rather than fill the local landfill.
