Matrex and Matrex Seating – Greensboro, NC

Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, Branch 0009 and Matrex Seating have been registered members of the EFEC program since 2011. The facilities manufacture a wide variety of sheet and strip webbing that are used by manufacturers to provide internal support for seating systems. The main processes consist of knitting and assembly, shipping and receiving, and office staff. The facilities also buy and resell a number of components that are used in finished furniture manufacturing. Examples of this practice include webbing, legs, and imported fabrics.

Here are the goals set by the EFEC Team for 2018:

  1. Reduce paper usage
    • The facility will switch to an electronic/digital system
    • Implement digital clock in/out
  2. Reduce energy
    • Lighting conversions
  3. Reduce the amount of boxes purchased
    • Use returnable totes where possible

The two facilities organized a cleanup event in November 2016 for the streets adjacent to Branch 0009. During this event, crews picked up litter for half a mile in every direction from the plant. Additionally, both facilities collect and donate denim to Blue Jeans Go Green™. All denim collected through the Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program is recycled into UltraTouch™ Denim Insulation, and a portion of it, up to 250,000 square feet, will be distributed to help communities in need.
