Leggett & Platt Guadalajara – Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico
Branch 5521 in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico, is a manufacturer and supplier of a wide variety of products that furniture makers and mattress manufacturers use for finishing products.
The facility became Eco Initiative registered in June 2016. The facility has strong employee participation in the program. The Eco Initiative team has worked hard to implement reduction efforts within the facility, as well as to include the surrounding community in the program.
Reduction efforts during program implementation include:
- Recycle 1600 sheets of paper in-house per month
- Recycle 100% of the wooden boxes that come from China
- Recycle 80 wooden pallets per month for packing mechanisms
- Save water
- Collect 100% of batteries for recycling
During community outreach, the facility worked with the local university, Centro de Ensenanza Tecnica Industrial, to share information about sustainability programs with each other. The facility has opened battery and medicine recycling collections to the public through employee word of mouth. Additionally, the facility received trees from the Forestry Department to plant near the facility; some were even given to employees to take home. The facility also held an area cleanup event that was incorporated into an employee meal and sporting event to encourage participation, and use as an educational opportunity.
