Whittier – Whittier, CA
Whittier obtained initial Eco Initiative Mini registration in July 2016. They kicked off a successful program with great enthusiasm and input from multiple employee partners. The facility is physically located in Whittier, CA, and employs about 45 employees. Operations are capable of distributing more than 523 Fashion Bed products, 2,443 textiles, and 2,387 bed frames in a 24-hour period.
The facility has accomplished goals in landfill waste diversion by implementing a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (RRR) waste management program for items such as corrugated and office paper, plastics, metal, and other materials. The facility has an active pallet recovery and repair program in place to reduce new-pallet purchases and keep material out of the landfill.
The facility is currently working to reduce energy consumption through lighting upgrades and motion sensor lighting, an equipment shutdown program, and HVAC system improvements.
For 2018, the Eco Initiative Team has been focused on increasing recycling at the facility. Current recycling projects include:
- Recycling 100% of electronic waste produced by the facility
- Recycling 100% of ink cartridges generated at the facility
